About the artist

Jessie Lefebvre is a Savannah based painter who received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Jessie grew up on the small island of Nantucket, where she worked at her family’s ice cream shop: The Juice Bar. Ever since a young age, Jessie has had a creative imagination. Past memories and experiences growing up on Nantucket continue to inform her large scale, acrylic and oil paintings.

She is interested in investigating illusion and space in her work. Through a contemporary disrupted style of representational painting, Jessie creates large scale works that encompass a variety of textures, colors, and layers. Jessie also enjoys painting figurative subject matter of her friends and animals, and often incorporates her two pets into her paintings.

Jessie has exhibited at the Savannah Hilton Head International airport, and throughout the east coast, and was a finalist for the NYC AXA Prize. She will return to Nantucket, and continue her studio practice.

Artist Statement

Adjectives : Alteration, Fragmentation, Bright, Mysterious,

Hot gluing stuffed animals to my walls used to satisfy me when I was little. Now, I walk around covered in paint, with wads of paper towels in my pockets. Time is a sequence of events that moves from the past into the present, and the future. Through contemporary representational oil painting, the ever changing cycle of time is reflected through unsettled movement and disruption in the medium. My work explores individual realities, animals, and environments. Rendered figures recur and morph into the bright, exaggerated environment around them. Representational elements are altered and repeated to display evolution of process.
